Lance Letscher is known for his poetic, often playful collages out of found objects, such as old letters, newspaper clippings, books, recipes, and album covers, all cut and composed into fascinating patterns and textures.  Letscher received both his Bachelor of Fine Arts and his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas.  He later apprenticed as master printer for Amado Peña, an artist known for his Southwestern-style prints.  His past printmaking experience and love of the intaglio process and mark making on copper has inspired a body of intaglio works created as co-publications with Flatbed Press.  

Yellow Ellipse is the first of the series of prints created in 2020.  Printed from three etched plates using a la poupée color applications, Letscher practices his illusionistic skills with the floating ellipses.  This is no “cold” illusion.  It is laced the artist’s searching hand, lines actively reaching and defining living ellipses.  They vibrate with color and life recalling a still, living and breathing body.  The 11 3/4 x 9 3/4 inch  etching was printed on a full sized 30 x 22 1/2  inch Rives BFK paper in an edition of 24.  

Letcher’s work is held in public and private collections around the country and has been reviewed in Art in America, The New York Observer, and Harper’s Magazine, among other publications.  A full-length monograph of his work, Lance Letscher: Collage, was published in 2009.`
