Byron Brauchli, photographer and researcher at the Institute of Fine Arts at the University of Veracruz, Xalapa, has been photographing the Yucatan landscape for more than two decades. Typically seen as a verdant and picturesque environment, the area is plagued by rampant development threatening its environmental diversity. The question surrounding Brauchli’s project is, “Should art continue to insist upon producing images of unspoiled and serene beauty in spite of the growing deforestation and destruction of woodland and jungle?” The works exhibited in Encrucijadas, meaning "crossroads," are a conversation about the rampant modern forces of change bearing upon the Mexican landscape
