What a Relief! Intro to Woodcut Printmaking | July 14 - 15
July 14 -15, 2018 | 10am - 4pm
Learn the technique behind creating bold and dramatic prints in a class suitable for all levels of experience. Alfonso will demonstrate design principles of relief images, carving techniques, inking, and printing. Participants will have the option of working with either a wood or linoleum block and learn the different qualities of each material. Relief blocks can be printed with traditional or nontoxic water-based ink on a variety of paperweights or cloth. This class will teach participants how to print work at home without a press. These easily printed blocks make great cards, logo designs, illustrations, fabric designs, and of course, fine art prints.
Tuition is $200. Woodblocks and printmaking rag paper will be available for purchase from Flatbed Press during the workshop. Students are also encouraged to purchase paper before the workshop if desired; further information will be included in the syllabus. Materials fees for this workshop average $20 depending on block size and paper usage.
