Flatbed - founded in 1989 by Katherine Brimberry and Mark L. Smith - is now in the process of relocating to 3201 Drossett Drive Suite 190, Austin, Texas 78744. The new location is slated to open after renovation in June 2019. It is a newly designed 6000 sq. ft. space housing two large printmaking studios and a gallery. Flatbed's new space will be comprised of three divisions:
Flatbed Press is a publishing workshop which collaborates with artists to produce limited editions of original etchings, lithographs, woodcuts and monoprints. Flatbed also does contract, collaborative printing for other publishers, dealers, artists, and institutions and is available on a limited basis for open shop work by experienced artists.
Flatbed Community Press is a large private studio where independent printmaker-artists can independently explore printmaking practices. It will be open for a limited annual membership and is accessible 24/7.
Flatbed Gallery is a private art gallery which specializes in original prints. Works from Flatbed's extension inventory are available in Flatbed's showroom, which is a part of the gallery.
Internships - Flatbed requires interns to be available 16-20 hours per week and we prefer applicants that are eligible for classroom credit through their educational system. Our internships are a one semester volunteer opportunity and positions available are either in the front office business management or assisting in our printmaking facility.
