Internships
Flatbed’s Internship Program
Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking seeks to offer a comprehensive experience of professional, community, and gallery operation to individuals interested in developing their printmaking practice or curatorial practice through our internship program. Internship benefits include press time, matrix preparations, and basic material needs during shop hours and outside internship hours.
The Flatbed Press Internship Program is designed to provide valuable experience in editioning, print shop maintenance, original-print connoisseurship, exhibitions, and print marketing. During Flatbed’s thirty plus years of operation, dozens of interns have gained skills and knowledge that have translated into meaningful careers in print shops, museums, and galleries across the world. Flatbed keeps in contact with former interns as they progress in their careers, so that they can assist each other professionally and continue to nurture our print community.
We require interns to be available 16-20 hours per week. Our internships are a one semester volunteer opportunity and positions available are either in the front office business management or assisting in our printmaking facility.
Fall Semester: Internship runs September-December (Application due August 1st)
Spring Semester: Internship runs January-May (Application Due December 1st)
Summer: Internship runs June-August (Application Due May 1st)
Internship Expectations (Unpaid) Upon start date, Interns will develop their shop tech maintenance skills to facilitate the needs of the professional and community print shops. Expectations include, shop upkeep, paper preparation, taking initiative, organization, punctuality, and an interest in developing print techniques. Interns will assist on collaborations through observation and assist with edition preparation and production. If an intern assists a full project development and editioning, they will be given a Printers Proof (PrP) from said project.
