Day to Day Drawings by Denny McCoy

“S 2 9” , drawing with mixed media, 11 x 17 inches.

Flatbed is thrilled to exhibit drawings by Denny McCoy featured in his recently published book of drawings titled “Day to Day". The exhibition will open on March 1 at Flatbed with a book signing opportunity with McCoy. The opening reception will be from 6 - 8 pm.

The beautifully illustrated book has essays and other wriings by Becky Duval Reese, Catherine Lee, Dana Friis-Hansen and Katherine Brimberry. McCoy’s drawings are the fruit of his daily practice of drawing. The unique aspect of his practice is the spontaneous call and response method he often uses. As the creator of the drawings, he allows them to invent themselves.

“When he walks into the studio, the pages are open and empty.  It is early  and barely light. Paintings can wait. Picking up a pencil or maybe a brush or pen, he makes one mark, perhaps at  random.  A mark may sit there for a while and then it calls for another.  The next suggests another and from nothing ideas emerge in the form of pigment on a surface.” Katherine Brimberry
