Flatbed is thrilled to welcome back Jenny Robinson who will be collaborating on a lithograph at Flatbed and exhibiting her newest work. Robinson who now resides in Sydney, Australia, wasborn in 1957 in the United Kingdom and raised in Borneo. She received a BFA in Printmaking from West Surrey College of Art and Design and was an Artist in Residence at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, California for over 10 years. She has traveled extensively and lived and worked in London, San Francisco, Slovenia, and Australia, whose buildings and structures she often references in her work. Robinson has taught at the Kala Institute, the San José Institute of Contemporary Art, the San Francisco Book Center, and the University of Chico. She was awarded the Mario Avati Prix de Gravure by the Académie des Beaux Arts in Paris in 2019.
Robinson is known for her use of monumental scale and fragile, lightweight papers to draw attention to the strength and fragility of both the natural and manmade worlds. Her imagery often features the built environment and decaying structures, from iron bridges to concrete warehouses, investigating the impact of the present moment on the appearance of places and materials.
A public reception is planned for August 31 from 4 - 6 pm at Flatbed Center for Contemporary Printmaking.
